Terms & Conditions

The Underdog Project

Last updated: 15 October 2026

Welcome to The Underdog Project!

We’re all about building confidence, strengthening the connection between dogs and their humans, and enjoying adventures together.

These Terms & Conditions explain what you can expect when booking activities or purchasing products from The Underdog Project, and what we ask of you in return.

Please read the relevant sections before making a booking or placing an order. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

1. About The Underdog Project

The Underdog Project is operated by Amy Varley, trading as The Underdog Project, an independent sole trader based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

We provide Mantrailing, Tracking and Scent Work activities for pet dogs and their owners, alongside an online shop selling natural dog treats, merchandise and other dog-related products.

Business address: 26 Rockley Close, Huddersfield, HD5 8NS

Email: hello@underdogproject.co.uk

Website: https://underdogproject.co.uk

These terms apply to bookings made through our website, Acuity Scheduling or directly with us, and to purchases made through our online shop.

2. Booking Activities

Bookings for Mantrailing, Tracking and Scent Work can be made through our online booking system:

https://theunderdogproject.as.me

Some private sessions, workshops and special events may be arranged directly.

All bookings are subject to availability. Session prices, dates, times, locations and relevant details will be provided before booking or confirmed in advance of the activity.

Payment is normally required in advance to secure your place, unless otherwise agreed.

Please ensure the information you provide about yourself and your dog is accurate and up to date.

3. Customer Cancellations and Rescheduling

We understand that plans change, dogs become unwell and unexpected circumstances arise.

However, session spaces are limited, and late cancellations can be difficult to fill.

We therefore ask customers to provide at least 72 hours’ notice wherever possible if they need to cancel or rearrange a booking.

If you cancel, we will make reasonable efforts to offer your space to another customer.

If your place is filled: You will be offered credit towards another eligible session, to be used within three months of your original session date.

If your place cannot be filled: A cancellation charge may apply, reflecting the reasonable loss incurred by The Underdog Project, taking account of costs saved and opportunities to rebook the place. Any balance remaining after a fair cancellation charge will be refunded.

Late cancellations and non-attendance: Cancellations made with less than 72 hours’ notice, or failure to attend without notification, may result in a cancellation charge reflecting the reasonable loss incurred.

We will not charge more than is fair and reasonable in the circumstances or recover the same loss twice.

Please contact hello@underdogproject.co.uk as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule.

These arrangements do not override any statutory cancellation or refund rights that may apply.

4. Cancellations by The Underdog Project

Occasionally, we may need to cancel or postpone a session due to circumstances such as:

  • Extreme weather, including excessive heat, ice, snow or storms.
  • Instructor illness or emergencies.
  • Unsafe training conditions.
  • Unexpected loss of access to a training location.
  • Other circumstances affecting the safe delivery of an activity.

The safety and welfare of dogs, handlers and other participants will always take priority.

If we cancel a session, you will be offered the choice of transferring to another suitable session or receiving a full refund for the cancelled session.

We will aim to provide as much notice as reasonably possible.

5. Workshops, Introductions and Special Events

Introduction sessions, workshops, assessments and special events may have different formats, durations, participant limits or requirements.

Any additional conditions will be clearly communicated before booking.

Unless otherwise stated, the general booking, cancellation and safety terms in this document apply.

Some activities booked for a specific date or period may fall within the statutory exception to the usual 14-day cooling-off right for leisure services. Where that exception does not apply, we will respect any applicable statutory cancellation rights.

6. Dog Health and Welfare

The welfare of every dog attending our activities is a priority.

Customers are responsible for ensuring their dog is fit and well enough to participate.

Please do not attend with a dog that:

  • Is showing signs of a potentially contagious illness.
  • May pose an infectious disease risk to other dogs.
  • Has an injury or medical condition that could be aggravated by participating.
  • Is otherwise unwell or unsuitable for the planned activity.

If your dog has an existing medical condition, injury or mobility concern, please discuss this with us before attending. Veterinary advice may be recommended where appropriate.

We do not impose a blanket vaccination requirement for all activities. However, owners are responsible for making informed decisions about preventative healthcare and infectious disease risks.

Additional health requirements may apply at particular venues or events and will be communicated in advance.

We may decline or stop participation where there is a reasonable concern for a dog’s welfare or the safety of others. Any applicable cancellation charges or refunds will be assessed fairly.

7. Reactive, Nervous and Sensitive Dogs

The Underdog Project welcomes dogs with a wide range of personalities, confidence levels and behavioural needs.

This includes dogs who may be nervous, reactive, easily overwhelmed or uncomfortable around unfamiliar people or dogs.

We aim to provide a supportive, understanding and non-judgemental environment.

To help us plan appropriately, customers must provide accurate information about their dog’s behaviour, including any known bite history or safety concerns that could affect participation.

Dogs generally work individually during our activities, and direct interactions between participating dogs are not part of our standard session format.

However, our activities often take place in public spaces, so encounters with members of the public, other dogs, vehicles and wildlife cannot always be avoided.

Owners remain responsible for managing their dogs safely and following reasonable instructions from the instructor.

We may recommend adjustments, additional safety measures or an alternative activity where appropriate.

8. Equipment and Handling

Dogs must be handled using appropriate, safe and humane equipment.

Depending on the activity, this may include a suitable harness, long line, rewards and any additional equipment recommended before the session.

Handlers must follow reasonable safety instructions and use equipment appropriately.

We may refuse the use of equipment considered unsafe or unsuitable for the activity.

9. Session Safety and Participant Responsibilities

Our activities may take place in parks, woodland, urban environments, car parks and other public or private locations.

These environments may include uneven ground, slippery surfaces, traffic, wildlife, members of the public and other potential hazards.

Customers agree to:

  • Follow reasonable instructions from the instructor.
  • Keep their dog under appropriate control.
  • Wear suitable clothing and footwear.
  • Inform the instructor of relevant health, behaviour or safety concerns.
  • Respect other participants, members of the public and the environment.
  • Clean up after their dog.
  • Avoid approaching or interacting with other participating dogs unless specifically instructed.

Handlers are responsible for assessing their own ability to participate safely and informing us of any relevant accessibility requirements.

Dogs waiting between activities

During group Mantrailing and Tracking sessions, dogs generally work individually.

When not working, dogs may need to wait securely in their owner’s vehicle.

Owners are responsible for ensuring their vehicle provides a safe and comfortable waiting environment, including appropriate ventilation and temperature management.

Dogs must not be left in vehicles where conditions could compromise their welfare.

We may modify, postpone or cancel activities if weather conditions make vehicle waiting unsafe.

10. Children and Young People

Children and young people under 18 are welcome to participate when accompanied by a responsible adult.

The accompanying adult must remain present and is responsible for supervising the child throughout the activity.

Participation and handling arrangements may be adapted according to the child’s age, experience, the dog’s behaviour and the environment.

For safety reasons, some activities or handling tasks may not be suitable for every child.

11. Photographs and Videos

Photographs and videos may be taken during sessions for educational, training and promotional purposes.

Our booking process includes a question regarding photography and video permissions.

We will respect the permissions provided and handle identifiable images in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law.

If you have concerns about photographs or videos featuring you, please contact hello@underdogproject.co.uk.

12. Training Outcomes

Every dog is an individual, and progress varies depending on experience, confidence, motivation, health and the environment.

While we aim to provide enjoyable, supportive and appropriately structured activities, we cannot guarantee specific training or behavioural outcomes.

Mantrailing, Tracking and Scent Work are enrichment and training activities. They are not substitutes for veterinary treatment or specialist behavioural assessment where these are needed.

We aim to work within our professional competence and recommend additional support where appropriate.

13. Our Online Shop

The Underdog Project operates an online shop through WooCommerce.

Products may include natural dog treats and chews, clothing, merchandise and other dog-related products.

Product descriptions, prices and availability are displayed on the website.

We make reasonable efforts to ensure product information and images are accurate.

Natural products may vary in size, colour, shape, texture and appearance.

Any significant product characteristics, limitations or warnings will be included in the relevant product information where appropriate.

All prices are displayed in pounds sterling (GBP). Any applicable delivery charges will be shown before checkout.

We reserve the right to correct genuine pricing or listing errors. If an error affects an order, we will contact you to explain the available options rather than automatically charging a different amount.

14. Orders and Payments

Customers must provide accurate information when placing an order.

Online payments are processed through the payment methods available at checkout, including WooPayments.

An order acknowledgement does not necessarily mean an order has been accepted.

We will confirm acceptance of your order or notify you if we are unable to fulfil it.

If we cannot fulfil an accepted order, we will offer an appropriate refund or an alternative agreed arrangement.

We reserve the right to refuse an order for legitimate reasons, including stock unavailability, suspected fraud or an obvious pricing error.

Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights.

15. Delivery and Collection

Customers may choose postal delivery or collection at an arranged session, where available.

Postal delivery

Available delivery options and charges will be displayed during checkout.

We aim to dispatch orders within the timescales communicated at the time of purchase.

Unless otherwise agreed, goods will be delivered without undue delay and within 30 days of the contract being made.

If there is a significant delay or a problem fulfilling your order, we will contact you.

Customers are responsible for providing an accurate delivery address.

Where goods are lost or damaged during delivery arranged by The Underdog Project, we will handle the matter in accordance with applicable consumer law.

Collection at sessions

Collection may be available at selected Mantrailing, Tracking or Scent Work sessions.

Customers selecting collection will be provided with relevant arrangements.

Please wait for confirmation before travelling specifically to collect an order.

If you cannot attend the agreed collection, please contact us to arrange an alternative.

Your statutory rights apply to eligible online purchases regardless of whether you choose delivery or collection.

16. Returns and Refunds for Online Purchases

We want you to be happy with your purchases.

If something isn’t right, please contact hello@underdogproject.co.uk so we can help.

Changing your mind

For most eligible goods purchased online, you have a legal right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving the goods, without providing a reason.

To exercise this right, you must notify us clearly within the cancellation period.

You then have a further 14 days to return the goods.

Unless otherwise agreed, customers are responsible for the direct cost of returning unwanted goods.

We will refund eligible returned goods in accordance with applicable law, including the standard outbound delivery charge where required.

Refunds will normally be made using the original payment method.

We may wait until the goods have been returned, or evidence of their return has been provided, before issuing the refund.

We may make a lawful deduction for diminished value resulting from handling beyond what would reasonably be permitted when examining goods in a shop.

Exceptions to change-of-mind returns

Certain products may be excluded from the usual statutory cancellation right, including:

  • Goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised.
  • Goods that are liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly.
  • Sealed goods unsuitable for return for health protection or hygiene reasons, once unsealed after delivery.

These exceptions apply only where the relevant legal conditions are met.

Not all dog treats are automatically excluded from change-of-mind returns simply because they are edible.

Faulty, damaged or incorrect goods

If an item arrives faulty, damaged, not as described or otherwise fails to meet your statutory rights, please contact us.

We will provide an appropriate remedy in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

This may include a repair, replacement, price reduction or refund, depending on the circumstances.

Where goods are faulty or incorrectly supplied, we will cover reasonable return costs where legally required.

Your statutory rights are not affected by our change-of-mind returns policy.

17. Natural Dog Treats and Chews

Natural dog treats and chews are intended as complementary products and should be given responsibly.

Customers are responsible for choosing treats appropriate for their dog’s size, age, health, chewing habits and individual needs.

Dogs should be supervised when consuming treats and chews, and fresh drinking water should always be available.

Natural chews can present risks, including choking, digestive upset, tooth damage or injury, particularly where unsuitable products are selected or consumed inappropriately.

Please read relevant product descriptions, ingredients, feeding guidance and warnings before use.

If your dog has allergies, dietary restrictions or existing health concerns, seek appropriate veterinary advice before introducing new products.

We take reasonable care to supply products that meet applicable legal requirements.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for defective or unsafe products where the law provides a remedy.

18. Gift Vouchers

Gift vouchers purchased from The Underdog Project are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, unless otherwise stated before purchase.

Gift vouchers may be redeemed against eligible Mantrailing, Tracking and Scent Work activities offered by The Underdog Project.

Gift vouchers cannot be used to purchase physical products, including dog treats, merchandise or other items from our online shop.

Vouchers cannot ordinarily be exchanged for cash, except where required by law.

Where the cost of an activity exceeds the voucher value, the customer must pay the difference.

Any unused balance may be applied towards another eligible activity before the expiry date, where partial redemption is supported.

Bookings made using gift vouchers are subject to the relevant booking and cancellation conditions.

Statutory consumer rights, including any applicable cancellation rights when purchasing a voucher, remain unaffected.

19. Liability

The Underdog Project takes reasonable care to provide safe, suitable and professionally delivered activities.

However, activities involving dogs and outdoor environments carry inherent risks.

Participants are expected to follow reasonable safety instructions and take appropriate care of themselves, their dogs and others.

We are not responsible for losses caused solely by a customer’s failure to follow reasonable instructions or by circumstances outside our control, except where the law provides otherwise.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or restricts liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by negligence.
  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
  • Breach of statutory consumer rights.
  • Any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

Any responsibility for damage, injury or loss will be determined according to the circumstances and applicable law.

22. Complaints and Concerns

We want everyone to have a positive experience with The Underdog Project.

If you have a concern about a session, booking or purchase, please contact us so we can investigate and try to resolve the matter fairly.

Email: hello@underdogproject.co.uk

We aim to respond to enquiries and complaints within a reasonable timeframe.

Nothing in this section limits your right to seek independent advice or pursue any remedies available under consumer law.

23. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect changes to our services, products, business practices or legal requirements.

The latest version will be available on our website.

Changes will not retrospectively remove rights or alter agreed contractual terms without an appropriate legal basis or agreement.

24. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Nothing in this section removes any mandatory consumer protections or legal rights that apply to you.
